The Hub

The Community Hub at Quayside is a concept developed to bridge the gap between rapid urban development and authentic community belonging along Toronto’s waterfront. As team lead, I guided our group through research, analysis, and iterative design to understand how residents, visitors, students, and families currently move through the Quayside area and what barriers prevent meaningful interaction. Our work revealed a strong desire for public-facing, accessible spaces that feel integrated with daily life rather than hidden within private buildings. This insight shaped our direction toward creating a hub that supports connection, wellness, and everyday use across all seasons.

The resulting concept proposes a flexible, community-anchored space that blends indoor and outdoor programming, student-run childcare, gathering zones, and wellness-oriented amenities. Designed as a welcoming point of convergence, the Hub supports both planned and spontaneous interactions while reinforcing Quayside’s vision for a more connected, people-centered future. By prioritizing accessibility, safety, and year-round vibrancy, our proposal positions the Hub as a meaningful addition to the waterfront—one that supports residents and city-goers alike through programming, social infrastructure, and thoughtful spatial design.
